Our ResPlus Auto CPAP Machine Review

The ResPlus Auto CPAP Machine offers both CPAP and APAP settings. CPAP uses a single air pressure level that's programmed after a CPAP titration study, while APAP uses an algorithm to determine what air pressure level the user needs from breath to breath.

The ResPlus Auto CPAP features an integrated heated humidifier that may help alleviate the common PAP side effect of dry, irritated airways. The humidifier has a large tank, but it can be removed to streamline the device for travel.

Other features include ramp settings, expiratory pressure relief, and automatic start and stop capabilities that users can turn on separately.

What's Included

The ResPlus Auto CPAP comes with everything needed to use it, including a nasal mask and standard 6-foot tubing. However, the machine is compatible with all CPAP masks and standard tubing, and most users have a better experience when choosing their own CPAP mask

Users also receive a TransFlash card that can be used to record and store information about their device usage. This information can be useful for their medical provider in addition to providing compliance data that may be required for insurance purposes

  • ResPlus Auto CPAP device
  • Plastic humidifier tank
  • Standard 6-foot tubing
  • Nasal mask
  • AC adapter
  • Two air filters
  • Carrying case
  • TransFlash data card
  • User manual

Notable Features

The ResPlus Auto CPAP’s features are common among similarly priced APAP machines, though users may appreciate their convenient implementation.

For example, the automatic stop and start capabilities can be turned on or off separately so that people who shouldn't use the automatic stop feature can still take advantage of the automatic start. Users can also remove the integrated heated humidifier tank to make the machine smaller for travel. The tank holds enough water to last for two nights without requiring a refill.

The machine doesn't come with wireless capabilities or a touch screen, which may make it simpler to use for those who are new to PAP therapy. Data can still be collected and stored using the included TransFlash card.

  • Ramp settings: CPAP ramp settings can help users fall asleep by gradually increasing air pressure rather than starting at the ideal air pressure level. The ResPlus Auto CPAP offers a ramp time of up to 60 minutes.
  • Integrated heated humidifier: The ResPlus Auto CPAP’s heated humidifier adds warm water vapor to the pressurized air, making the machine more comfortable and potentially relieving sinus irritation.
  • Expiratory pressure relief: Some CPAP users find it difficult or unnatural to exhale against fully pressurized air. Expiratory pressure relief lowers the air pressure during exhalation to provide a more natural breathing experience.
  • Automatic start and stop: Users can choose to have the ResPlus Auto CPAP start automatically when they begin breathing into their mask and stop when they take their mask off. These settings can be turned on or off separately.

Size and Cost

The ResPlus Auto CPAP weighs 4.85 pounds and is slightly smaller than a shoebox. It's wider and longer than it's tall, providing it with more stability than top-heavy CPAP machines. To compensate for this design choice, the 3.5-inch LCD screen is on top of the device rather than on the side.

While the ResPlus Auto CPAP is comparable in size and weight to most other CPAP machines, it can be streamlined for travel or use in small spaces by removing the humidifier tank.

APAP machines tend to be more expensive than machines that only have CPAP capabilities. However, the ResPlus AutoCPAP’s price point is at the lower end of average for an APAP machine, making it comparable in price to many CPAP machines on the market.

Customer Reviews

Most ResPlus Auto CPAP users report positive experiences with their machine, particularly regarding its ease of use. Users also appreciated that the integrated humidifier is fully removable, making the machine easier to travel with than most other full-size PAP machines.

The machine’s noise level and leakage potential were two repeated areas of concern. While 30 decibels is still considered whisper-quiet, some very light sleepers found it loud enough to disturb their sleep. Other users found high leakage levels on their reports, though they also reported that their medical team assured them that their PAP therapy was unaffected.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

AvailabilityThe ResPlus Auto CPAP, like all CPAP and APAP machines, is only available to people who have received a prescription from a medical professional. Customers can purchase the ResPlus Auto CPAP from both online and brick-and-mortar CPAP retailers.
ShippingShipping times and fees vary depending on the retailer, your chosen shipping option, and your location. Many online CPAP retailers offer free standard shipping for PAP machines.
Sleep TrialBeyond Medical doesn't offer a trial period for the ResPlus Auto CPAP. Customers should read their chosen retailer’s return policy before purchasing their machine.
WarrantyBeyond Medical provides customers with a one-year warranty covering the ResPlus Auto CPAP machine and a three-month warranty covering the tubing, mask, and humidifier tank. Both warranties cover defects in workmanship or materials so long as the machine and accessories are used and maintained according to their instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

With a one-touch on and off button and automatic start and stop settings, the ResPlus Auto CPAP is designed to be exceptionally easy to use. However, users select settings using a dial that may be difficult to operate for those with dexterity concerns.

Like most other PAP machines, the ResPlus Auto CPAP is compatible with all CPAP masks and standard CPAP tubing. Beyond Medical doesn't sell a heated tubing option for the machine.

PAP machine air pressure ranges are expressed in centimeters of water pressure (cm H2O), and the ResPlus Auto CPAP has a range of 4 to 20 cm H2O. This is a standard range for most PAP machines and should fulfill the needs of most users.

At 30 decibels, the ResPlus Auto CPAP is about as loud as somebody whispering nearby. While louder than some of its competitors, this machine should still be quiet enough for all but the lightest sleepers.

While users cannot adjust the temperature of the integrated heated humidifier, they can adjust the humidification level. Settings range from 0 to 5, and the humidifier tank holds enough water to provide two nights’ worth of humidification, even on the highest setting.

Beyond Medical advises users to empty and clean the humidifier tank daily, clean the air filter at least every two weeks, and replace the air filter every three months. Other accessories, such as tubing and the user’s CPAP mask, must also be cleaned regularly according to the manufacturer’s directions.

While the ResPlus Auto CPAP is larger and heavier than most travel CPAP machines, it can be streamlined for travel by removing the humidifier tank. However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hasn't approved the machine for in-flight use.
