4 reasons why going screen free is sleep friendly
- Turning off electronic back-lit devices one hour before bedtime is good sleep hygiene because it allows your brain to release natural melatonin in conjunction with its circadian transition from day to night.
- Checking Facebook or email, watching a movie, or playing a video game right before bed is too stimulating to facilitate sleep; however, board games, reading, puzzles, warm baths, or listening to music is great for sleep!
- Face time with your family and friends, talking and laughing and interacting, is good for your mental health and relationships and can lead to nighttime relaxation and stress relief.
- Now that natural light lasts later in the day, this is a good time to enjoy early evening trips to the park, beach, or other favorite outdoor location: try a dinner picnic! Your circadian rhythms will thank you for the reset!
